Higher-Order Aberration correction continues to gain momentum across specialty contact lens manufacturing. Industry discussions, educational programs, and specialty lens surveys increasingly highlight HOA correction as one of the emerging areas of innovation in specialty contact lenses, reflecting growing interest in personalized optical correction. As laboratories and practitioners increasingly adopt wavefront-guided technologies, the ability to work with diagnostic data from different instruments becomes essential. As pioneers in HOA correction for specialty contact lenses, our objective has always been clear: to make advanced optical correction practical, accessible, and compatible with real-world laboratory workflows. Today, we are introducing a series of enhancements to the FocalPoints enVisus platform, expanding compatibility with leading diagnostic systems and simplifying the path from measurement to manufacturing.
Breaking Down Data Silos
Advanced diagnostics generate valuable information, but fragmented data can make it difficult to move efficiently from diagnosis to lens design. More than 40% healthcare leaders continue to identify data integration as a major challenge, while studies suggest that improved interoperability can increase efficiency by up to 15%. By expanding support for aberrometers and introducing new visualization and analysis tools, the latest enVisus enhancements help laboratories streamline their HOA workflows with greater flexibility and confidence.
A More Powerful HOA Environment
The latest release introduces a series of enhancements designed to provide greater visibility into HOA corrections throughout the design process. Users can now view the amount of correction applied to each Zernike coefficient directly within the interface, making it easier to understand how individual aberrations contribute to the final correction strategy. In addition, enVisus now offers three interchangeable map views, allowing users to switch instantly between the original wavefront, the applied correction, and the residual error. This provides a clearer understanding of how each correction strategy influences the final optical profile.
-
ORIGINAL ABERROMETRY
View the measured wavefront data captured by the instrument
-
APPLIED CORRECTION
Visualize the HOA correction that will be applied to the selected lens design
-
RESIDUAL ABERRATION
Evaluate the remaining aberrations after the selected correction has been applied
RMS Analysis and Enhanced Visualization
To support a more objective evaluation of HOA corrections, enVisus now calculates and displays RMS values directly on the active map. Users can immediately review Total RMS, HOA RMS, and LOA RMS for the original aberrometry, the correction map, or the residual map. This provides additional insight into the optical characteristics of each dataset without requiring external calculations. The coefficient visualization tools have also been significantly enhanced. An enhanced bar chart displays the original coefficient magnitude together with the corrected and residual portions, allowing users to evaluate the impact of each correction at a glance. Reference indicators based on published normal-eye datasets provide additional context, helping laboratories better understand the significance of individual aberrations within a broader clinical framework.
enVisus updated interface and advanced new features
Expanded Pentacam Support
enVisus now extends its Pentacam integration beyond corneal topography. While topography data was already supported in FocalPoints, the latest enhancements add aberrometry data and eye imagery to the same workflow. Given Pentacam’s widespread adoption in clinical practice worldwide, this represents a particularly important addition, providing laboratories with access to a richer diagnostic dataset from one of the most commonly used instruments in specialty lens fitting. The result is greater clinical context while maintaining a streamlined design process.
Expanded NIDEK OPD-Scan III Integration
One of the most significant enhancements is support for the latest NIDEK OPD-Scan III export format. The new export package can be imported directly into FocalPoints enVisus and includes both wavefront measurements and examination imagery within a single file. This provides a more complete diagnostic dataset while simplifying the transfer of information from clinical measurement to lens design.
New CSO Osiris Integration
The Open Instruments Platform continues to expand with support for CSO Osiris file import. Given the growing adoption of Osiris in clinical environments, this integration further broadens access to HOA correction workflows by connecting another widely used diagnostic platform to enVisus.
Flexible Zernike Polynomial Import
For advanced users and research-oriented workflows, enVisus now supports the direct import of Zernike polynomial data through simple CSV files. This capability provides greater flexibility when working with custom wavefront datasets or external analysis environments. Instead of relying exclusively on predefined instrument formats, laboratories can import wavefront information directly into enVisus and process it as usual. This approach supports research initiatives, custom diagnostic workflows, and broader data interoperability, while also creating a flexible framework for future instrument integrations.
enVisus expanded Import options
The Widest Open Platform
These enhancements reinforce one of the core principles behind enVisus: openness. The Open Instruments Platform was designed to ensure that laboratories are not locked into a single diagnostic ecosystem. By supporting advanced instruments such as the CSO Osiris, Nidek OPD Scan, Ovitz xWave, Tracey iTrace, and Wavefront Dynamics WaveDyn, enVisus gives laboratories the freedom to build HOA correction workflows around their preferred diagnostic technologies while maintaining a consistent manufacturing process. The introduction of CSV-based formats further strengthens this approach, allowing aberrometry data and diagnostic imagery to move together through a single workflow and creating a richer design environment.
FocalPoints Unified Workflow
Regardless of the originating instrument, the workflow remains simple and consistent. This unique approach allows FocalPoints laboratories to expand HOA capabilities without changing lens designs, manufacturing equipment, or production procedures. More importantly, enVisus gives both laboratories and eye care professionals the freedom to choose the technologies that best fit their needs. Rather than being locked into a single diagnostic platform or correction ecosystem, laboratories can work with multiple aberrometers and maintain access to a broad range of lens designs, while practitioners can continue using their preferred diagnostic instruments. The result is one of the most flexible and interoperable HOA correction environments available in the specialty contact lens industry.
Bringing The Future of HOA Today
Since introducing one of the industry’s first HOA correction engines, our vision has been to make advanced optical correction available through practical manufacturing workflows. These latest enhancements represent another step toward that goal. By combining broader diagnostic interoperability with more advanced analysis and visualization tools, enVisus continues to bridge the gap between clinical measurement and specialty lens manufacturing. The result is a more open, flexible, and informative HOA correction environment that helps laboratories deliver personalized optical correction with confidence and efficiency.
The future of HOA correction depends on openness, interoperability, and usability. By expanding support for additional diagnostic platforms while introducing more advanced visualization and analysis tools, we are giving laboratories greater freedom to adopt HOA correction and greater confidence in the decisions they make throughout the design process.
