Next-gen Accuracy with the Powermap Comparison Engine
August 2024 - Go to FocalPoints Integrations
We are excited to introduce a new feature to our FocalPoints software: the Powermap Comparison Engine (PCE). This addition marks a significant advancement in contact lens manufacturing, enhancing precision and reliability in the lens inspection process. The PCE is a special tool designed to simplify the comparison between expected and actual power maps of contact lenses.

Simplifying Complexity
One of the primary challenges in contact lens manufacturing is ensuring that theoretical design parameters match practical outcomes. The PCE addresses this challenge by providing a detailed comparison of the expected power map with the actual measured one, immediately highlighting discrepancies and reducing potential subjectivity in the inspection process for highly complex lenses.
Key Features and Benefits of the PCE
The latest release of FocalPoints generates a power map for each lens in production, ensuring thorough analysis for accuracy and quality. By comparing theoretical and actual power maps, manufacturers can accurately identify and correct deviations. The PCE measures the average error in diopters, providing a clear quality metric. This is especially useful for complex designs, like High-order aberrations (HOAs) which are challenging to measure, with no market-ready solutions addressing this challenge. The PCE simplifies this process, allowing for faster, more efficient production cycles without compromising on quality or complexity.
Measured vs Computed
The following pictures show the Measured Power Map, the Target Power Map computed by FocalPoints, and an Error Map displaying the differences between the measured and target values at each point. This visual comparison is crucial in understanding and addressing any deviations, thereby ensuring the highest quality standards are met.

Power Mappers Compatibility
Fully compatible with Lambda-X NIMO and the Optocraft cito+prio, the PCE introduces a new standard for evaluating complex contact lens designs. Available as a free upgrade for all FP users with existing power mapper integration, it will also be included as a standard feature in future integrations.
From Theory to Practice
By bridging the gap between theory and practice, the PCE empowers manufacturers to produce lenses with unparalleled precision and quality. This enhancement not only improves the quality of the lenses but also boosts manufacturers' confidence in their production processes and their ability to experiment with cutting-edge technologies like HOA correction, without compromising efficiency and compliance. We invite our clients and to experience the benefits of the Powermap Comparison Engine, now included in the FP/Nimo interface, and join us in setting new standards in contact lens manufacturing. Together, we can continue to push the boundaries of what is possible, delivering better vision to people around the world.
We are committed to driving innovation in contact lens manufacturing by not only addressing current market needs but also anticipating future demands. The Powermap Comparison Engine exemplifies our forward-thinking and client-centric approach. This sophisticated yet user-friendly tool empowers our clients to confidently tackle even the most complex designs.
