Metro Cell Integration powered by Nexus Automation Hub

March 2026 - Product Update / Automation & Integration

Reduce inspection errors, increase throughput, and connect every radius measurement to your production workflow with automated Metro Cell integration. Upgrade your Lab →

In specialty contact lens manufacturing, surface precision defines product quality. Radius accuracy influences lens fit, optical performance, and repeatability across batches. At the same time, laboratories must increase throughput, reduce manual steps, and guarantee full traceability. To meet these needs, FocalPoints is now integrated with the Metro Cell by Rotlex, fully managed through our Nexus Automation Hub. This integration turns advanced radii analysis into a connected, traceable, and scalable part of the manufacturing workflow.

Rotlex Logo

The Metro Cell is designed for objective and repeatable radius measurement in production environments. It ensures high accuracy on spherical and toric geometries while eliminating operator subjectivity. Optimized for batch-based inspection, it analyzes 72 to 81 components per tray with an average cycle time of around 50 seconds per part. Adaptive scanning enables measurement of symmetric and asymmetric lens buttons, plastic molds, metal inserts, and complex freeform geometries without dedicated fixtures or recalibration. The result is fast, consistent, high-throughput quality control directly on the production floor.

When connected to FocalPoints, measurement data is no longer isolated. Each radius value becomes part of the complete digital lens record, automatically linked to order data, production parameters, material batches, and inspection stages.

Rotlex Metro Cell in Action

From Measurement to Manufacturing Intelligence

Several years ago, we started developing the first integration of the Metro Cell platform. That project confirmed the importance of automating quality inspection, although the automation framework was not yet fully mature. Today, the new Metro Cell integration represents a different level of evolution. It has been developed from the ground up using the latest ROTLEX technical advancements and implemented through our standardized automation architecture, the FocalPoints Nexus Automation Hub. This ensures stability, long-term compatibility, and support for future automation projects.

How Nexus Connects the Workflow

The technological advancement of the Metro Cell is managed by the FP Nexus Automation Hub, a revolutionary platform that orchestrates the integration and management of automated instruments without the need for operator oversight. The Nexus Automation Hub is a step forward in our vision for a unified, scalable system offering seamless integration and sophisticated monitoring capabilities, all underpinned by our full traceability environment.

  1. Objective, Repeatable Radius Verification

  2. High-Throughput Inspection

  3. Full Digital Traceability

  4. Reduced Manual Handling

  5. Scalable Automation Framework

A Fully Connected Quality Environment

The Metro Cell integration strengthens a key principle of our strategy: instruments should operate within a unified ecosystem, not as standalone devices. By centralizing metrology data inside FocalPoints, laboratories benefit from consistent quality control, faster processes, and complete production traceability. Advanced measurement becomes a natural extension of manufacturing, supporting compliance, operational efficiency, and long-term scalability.

ROTLEX has been delivering advanced metrology and quality assurance solutions to the ophthalmic industry since 1986. From their headquarters in Israel, ROTLEX designs and manufactures high-precision measurement systems for contact lenses, intraocular lenses, and other ophthalmic applications. Their technologies are widely adopted by manufacturers seeking objective, repeatable inspection standards within demanding production environments.

Precision measurement only creates real value when it is fully integrated into the manufacturing process. With the Metro Cell connected through the Nexus Automation Hub, we ensure that advanced radii analysis becomes structured data, traceable, secure, and immediately usable across the entire production workflow. This is how automation should serve specialty contact lens laboratories.
