Manage primary and secondary packaging through centralized, rule-based workflows that improve consistency, reduce manual effort, and support compliance requirements.
Manufacturers are under increasing pressure to manage labels, packaging, and documentation such as IFU, BoM, and CoC while keeping up with evolving regulations. This complexity makes consistency and compliance harder to maintain. Packaging Management consolidates all elements into one system, supporting more reliable and controlled processes.
PRIMARY AND SECONDARY PACKAGING
Manage primary and secondary packaging structures within a single controlled workflow
RULES-BASED UDI AND COMPLIANCE
Generate UDI codes and support MDR and ISO requirements through structured logic
INTEGRATED DOCUMENT AND MATERIAL CONTROL
Manage IFU, BoM, and CoC directly within the packaging process
CONNECTED PACKAGING WORKFLOWS
Integrate fitting sets, laser engraving, and packaging operations into a single process
FLEXIBLE PACKAGING TOOLS
Adapt layouts, variables, and configurations to support different products and markets
FROM LABELS TO FULL PACKAGING
Packaging Management extends beyond label-based processes to a complete packaging workflow, supporting primary and secondary packaging, UDI management, and documentation within a single system. PACKAGING MGMT ADVANTAGES
The Packaging Management goes beyond labeling, enabling you to design and manage both primary and secondary packaging with full control over content, layout, and compliance. Create templates with fixed and dynamic content, including lens parameters, variables, barcodes, images, and logos. Use the Packaging Set to bring everything together under your specific rules. For labs with engraving capabilities, the system can be extended with the FP Laser Engraving module.
A FULLY INTEGRATED VISUAL TOOL
The Packaging Designer is a flexible, visual tool for creating and managing multiple layout variations across both primary and secondary packaging. Whether you're working on case labels or box designs, it supports a WYSIWYG approach that lets you combine fixed and variable text, order details, lens parameters, barcodes, images, and logos. With full control over dimensions, positioning, and formatting, the Packaging Designer adapts seamlessly to your workflow and compliance needs.
Packaging Designer supports the use of dynamic variables, allowing you to insert order-specific data such as serial numbers, lens ID, patient information, shipping details, and more directly into packaging layouts. Each variable includes a description, format options, and sample output for easy configuration. Thanks to native integration with the FocalPoints database, these variables are automatically populated during packaging, reducing manual input, minimizing errors, and supporting traceability across all packaging.
FLEXIBLE UDI MANAGEMENT
UDI Management is now fully integrated into the Packaging Management, giving you complete control over how UDIs are generated and printed. Using rules-based logic, UDI codes can be tailored to product types and markets, supporting the most complex configurations for specialty contact lenses.
UDI FOR FITTING SETS
The new module also supports Fitting Sets, which present specific challenges under MDR. Unlike standard orders, their labeling depends on how they are managed within each lab’s QMS. The module simplifies this process, making label printing and assembly of fitting sets easier.
RULE-BASED PACKAGING SET
The Packaging Set functions as a dynamic rule engine that lets users configure packaging with precision and flexibility. By applying filters such as Country, Market, Area, Zone, Customer Type, and Manufacturing Location, it determines exactly which components should be applied to each product. Every condition can trigger a unique combination of packaging elements, enabling full customization without sacrificing centralized control. This rule-based system reduces errors and simplifies the rollout of new products or markets, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
BUILT-IN SYMBOLS FOR LABELLING
The Packaging Designer comes with a built-in library of symbols made for contact lens manufacturing. All symbols follow ISO 15223 standards, covering sterility, expiration, and handling instructions. With everything just a click away, labs can create consistent labels faster and with ease. The symbol library not only saves time, it also supports compliance and strengthens the professional look of every package.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is the Packaging Management a paid upgrade?
Yes. We've gone beyond simply managing UDIs, we used this opportunity to rethink the entire packaging process. The Packaging Management extends well beyond labeling, covering every component that makes up the product from both an operational and regulatory perspective. For current Label Management users, all existing label data carry over seamlessly with full backward compatibility.
What is the role of the Packaging Set?
The Packaging Set defines which packaging elements such as labels, boxes, laser engravings, IFUs, BoMs, and Certificates of Conformity are applied to a product, based on flexible filtering rules like country, market, customer type, or manufacturing location. The Packaging Management takes care of combining these elements automatically, ensuring that each product is packaged correctly for its destination. This eliminates manual setup, reduces errors, and keeps your packaging process fully aligned with regulatory and operational needs.
Will I need to re-enter my existing Labels?
No, if you already use the Label Management module, upgrading to the Packaging Management will be seamless and won't require you to re-enter any existing labels. The Packaging Management builds on the robust features of the current system, adding key capabilities like UDI Management. Most importantly, it introduces the flexibility to combine elements like labels, boxes, CoCs, IFUs, and more, into fully configurable Packaging Sets.
Do I need to upgrade?
If your labelling needs are simple, the existing Label Management module will continue to serve you well. However, if compliance is a priority, and you operate in regions where UDI requirements are mandatory or soon will be, upgrading to the Packaging Management will simplify both operations and regulatory alignment.
